| Blue Quail (Callipepla squamata) |
This bluish-gray quail sports a conspicuous white-tipped crest, easily distinguishing it from the bobwhite. Also known as the scaled quail, this large quail is fairly common in semi-desert scrubland of South Texas where they form large coveys during the fall. The blue quail is well known for its tendency to run along the ground rather than flush, thus making it challenging quarry.
