| Bobwhite Quail (Colinus virginianus) |
Bobwhite quail populations are declining across their range. South Texas remains one of the last strongholds for this economically important game bird, as populations here have remained relatively stable demonstrating no long-term decline.
Bobwhites are named for the male’s call, a rising, whistled bob-white. They are common in the brushlands and open woodlands of South Texas where they feed and roost in coveys.
